Professor Richard A. Williams, the vice chancellor and principal of Harriet Watt University, said: I'm professor Richard A. Williams and I'm the vice chancellor and principal of Harriet Watt University. I actually first came to China in 1989 and then not until 1992, but I had the opportunity due to funding that came from a body called British Council to spend several weeks each summer for several years here in Tianjin University. I'm a chemical engineer but I was working actually with the electrical and engineering department, and that was very special time but so much has changed, so much has changed. And I think China has worked so hard on this change, and it has achieved it, so it's wonderful to come back and to see that, and to see what China has achieved, and I have enjoyed working with Chinese research students who’ve been in my group, and to see them develop their careers. I think the main transformations that have occurred is that there has been a special focus, for example in Tianjin on chemical engineering, and it has developed really outstanding laboratory facilities, and it has opened its arms to other collaborators around the world and has grown its reputation, and this is very important.
